Install Rclone for Dropbox

Install Rclone and Mounting DependenciesDownload and install Rclone for your operating system:
Windows: Download Rclone from rclone.org. You must also install WinFsp to enable virtual mounting.
macOS: Install via Homebrew using brew install rclone. You will also need macFUSE or FUSE-T installed to support drive mounting.
Linux: Run sudo curl [https://rclone.org/install.sh\](https://rclone.org/install.sh) | sudo bash in your terminal.

Configure Rclone to Access Dropbox
Open your terminal or command prompt and run:

rclone config

Press n for New remote.
Enter a name for the remote (for example: dropbox_notes).
When asked for storage type, select or type dropbox.
Leave client_id and client_secret blank by pressing Enter.
Press y when asked to use the web browser for automatic authentication.
Your default browser will open to Dropbox. Log in, authorize Rclone, and return to the terminal.
Press y to accept the configuration, then q to quit the config wizard.

Mount the Dropbox Folder LocallyCreate a local mount point so Joplin can interact with the Dropbox directory as if it were a physical folder on your disk.On Windows:
Run this command in Command Prompt (replaces X: with an available drive letter):rclone mount dropbox_notes:MyCustomNotes X: --vfs-cache-mode full

On macOS / Linux:
Create a local folder first, then mount the remote directory to it:mkdir -p ~/JoplinSync
rclone mount dropbox_notes:MyCustomNotes ~/JoplinSync --vfs-cache-mode full

(Note: Keep this terminal window open while working, or run Rclone in background/daemon mode with --daemon.)
Configure Joplin File System Sync
Open Joplin.
Go to Tools > Options > Synchronisation (or Preferences > Synchronisation on Mac).
Set Synchronisation target to File system.
Set Directory to synchronise with to your mounted location:
Windows: X:\ (or your mapped drive letter)
macOS / Linux: /Users/yourusername/JoplinSync

Click Synchronise.

Alternative: Using Rclone WebDAV
If mounting virtual drives causes issues on your OS, you can run Rclone as a local WebDAV server instead:
rclone serve webdav dropbox_notes:MyCustomNotes --addr 127.0.0.1:8080

Then in Joplin:

Set Synchronisation target to WebDAV.
Set WebDAV URL to [http://127.0.0.1:8080/\](http://127.0.0.1:8080/).
Leave username and password blank (unless configured in Rclone).
